Enkhuizen was one of the great ports of the Dutch Golden Age and home to the largest herring fleet in the Netherlands. The old town retains its Golden Age atmosphere, with monumental buildings, canals and intact fortification walls. The harbour is central, the town is compact and walkable, and if you arrive a day early the Zuiderzeemuseum, housed partly in a 1625 VOC warehouse, is well worth a visit.
Direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal roughly every hour, journey around one hour.
From Schiphol Airport, around 70 to 90 minutes with one change (NS trains).
By road, approximately 50 minutes from Amsterdam on the A7. Parking available near the harbour.
