We are always on the lookout for fantastic media content and stories from your salty adventures. We can bang on endlessly about how fabulous traditional sailing is, but we want to know what it looks like to you! See below for some guidance on what to send and how to send it.
If you have a question or comment about anything traditional sailing related, get in touch! Not only will we answer you personally, but your question might end up on our FAQs page, helping others who might be in the same boat.
Great video content is incredibly useful, as it helps us give people a real sense of what a traditional sailing holiday is all about. If you send us footage that we’re able to use, we will not only be forever grateful, we will also give you a £50 Classic Sailing voucher to use towards your next adventure!
⚓ Make sure you have the permission of anyone you feature in your footage to share it with us!
⚓ Short is best, i.e. no longer than 30 seconds per video. 5 to 10 seconds is ideal. This doesn’t sound like much but it’s amazing what you can convey in that time. Clips of the ship, the lines, the sails moving, people enjoying deckwork and downtime, action shots of sail handling, working aloft, coiling down, anchoring, meal prep and mealtimes, wildlife etc, all brilliant.
⚓ Ideally footage should be portrait (vertical) orientation. We may still use it if its landscape (horizontal), but portrait is preferred. The only hard and fast rule on this is to pick an orientation and stick to it! No turning your phone around halfway through a shot.
⚓ A note on format: MP4 is great, .vid is good… we’d prefer not to receive native ivideo / iphone formats but we can always convert if necessary. If in doubt, send it anyway and we’ll see what we can do!
⚓ Please name your files sensibly, including your name, the name of the ship, the location and what it’s a clip of (E.g JoeBlogs_Provident_IsleofMull_SeaEagle)
⚓ Email us with your clips: skippers@classic-sailing.com. If your files are too big to email, we recommend using WeTransfer. If you do this it’s a good idea to email us too and let us know that there are videos incoming, as WeTransfer links expire and the notifications can end up going astray.
⚓ We won’t use your footage without your permission, and if we do use it we will reward you…
⚓ If we can use your footage, we’ll send you a Classic Sailing voucher for £50 off your next adventure. Who knows, perhaps we’ll even commission more content from you!
We love seeing your photos, and if they’re good quality and useful, we sometimes reward these too! While there are endless fascinating things to take photos of during your voyage, there are some pics that are especially handy for us. Shots of crew and guests getting stuck in with sail handling, helming, safety drills and going aloft are fantastic, as are pictures of mealtimes and crew briefings. Basically any images that portray life on board in all its glory! Of course lovely images of wildlife, sunsets, picturesque destinations and the ship under sail are all fab too!
⚓ Make sure you have the permission of anyone you feature in your photos to share it with us!
⚓ Send sensibly sized images. We want high quality pics, but we don’t need the RAW files from your DSLR. Around 1 to 2 MB is perfect.
⚓ Title your photos appropriately, ideally with your name, the name of the ship, the location and what it’s a picture of (e.g JaneDoe_Grayhound_Douarnenez_DinnerOnDeck)
⚓ JPEG images are preferred, but if in doubt, send them anyway!
⚓ Email us your photos: skippers@classic-sailing.com. If your files are too big to email, we recommend using WeTransfer. If you do this it’s a good idea to email us too and let us know that there are pictures incoming, as WeTransfer links expire and the notifications can end up going astray.
⚓ By sending us your photos you are giving us permission to use them in our marketing. If we do this, we will endeavour to credit you but this is not always possible. We do try to reward photo submissions that we are able to use. The manner of this is at our discretion and will be dependent on the quality and number of the pictures we can use, but rewards can range from shout-outs, to books, to Classic Sailing vouchers.
Pictures might tell a thousand words but sometimes you just can’t sum up a sailing voyage in photos. If you’re a journaller then you may already scribble down anecdotes and stories from your voyage. If you’d be happy to share any of these with us we’d be thrilled to receive them. Again, stories which sum up life on board, or describe particularly moving, interesting or amusing occurrences are always incredibly welcome.
We would also be very interested in hearing how you came to traditional sailing. What’s your origin story?! What first sparked your interest in these ships? Are you new to it or have you been a life-long sailor? What keeps you coming back?
Content we can use will be suitably rewarded! The manner of this is at our discretion and will depend on the content, but rewards can range from shout-outs, to books, to Classic Sailing vouchers.
Please email us at skippers@classic-sailing.com…and if you’ve got accompanying photos so much the better.
We can’t wait to hear from you!
