Situated on the Ligurian Sea between Genoa and Pisa, La Spezia is dominated by its maritime history and the ongoing naval presence. The Museo Tecnico Navale is excellent. La Spezia is also the perfect place from which to explore the ‘Cinque Terre’ or ‘Five Towns’, a national park and UNESCO site, with lovely walking routes through some of the region’s most picturesque old ports and villages.
