Join us for the 19th annual Pilot Cutter Review. A classic sailing event featuring traditional pilot cutter racing, passage sailing, and shoreside gatherings.


Event Overview: Fowey to St Mawes

This long-running celebration of traditional pilot cutters brings together sailors, vessels, and supporters from across the UK. It includes a passage race from Fowey to St Mawes, harbour racing in Carrick Roads, and social events at key local venues.

Thursday 29 May – Arrival and Briefing in Fowey
19:30 – Pilot cutters gather on the pontoon beside Prime Cellars, courtesy of Fowey Harbour Commissioners.
Evening briefing and welcome at Gallants Sailing Club.

Friday 30 May – Passage Race to St Mawes
10:00 – Departure from Fowey (subject to shipping movements).
St Mawes Pier and Harbour Company are allowing free anchoring in the bay.
18:30 – Race briefing at Bohella Bar. Food will be available.
Harbour Lights switched on Friday evening in celebration of the cutters’ arrival.


Saturday 31 May – Harbour and Carrick Roads Races
Two races are planned in the waters off St Mawes.
Evening gathering at Ruan Pontoon, with berthing facilitated by Truro Harbour Commissioners.
Berthing fees are the responsibility of each cutter. No over-rafting allowed.


Sunday 1 June – Final Racing & Prize Ceremony
One or two additional races, depending on Saturday’s results.
18:30 – Prize Giving at St Mawes Sailing Club Bar.
Followed by a free buffet for all participating sailors, supported by our sponsors.

Crew Call: Experienced Pilot Cutter Sailors

Some cutter owners are looking for extra crew for racing in St Mawes.

This call is only for those with relevant pilot cutter sailing experience. If you’ve never sailed one, or cannot arrange travel to Fowey or St Mawes, please do not apply.

Required in the form:

  • Full name and email
  • Summary of cutter experience (please name vessels)
  • When you last sailed a pilot cutter
