This mini sailing break is all about sailing, eating a delicious supper, sleeping on board, having breakfast in the morning followed by more sailing on a beautiful red sailed Brixham Trawler. There is no need for experience, a fellow partner or friend as these trips are ideal for the solo sailor with or without experience.

This voyage makes an ideal gift and is a great opportunity to get a taste of life on a traditional vessel for those of all ages, young and old. These one night B&B tasters enable you to learn all about traditional sailing with your expert skipper and crew, as well as experiencing a great night’s sleep in Pilgrim’s comfy bunks. We depart Saturday lunchtime and sail off for an overnight stay at anchor or in a local harbour. A freshly cooked dinner is included together with breakfast on Sunday morning. Once everything is stowed we set off to be back by lunchtime.
It’s simple and fun to join a weekend Sailing Sleepover on Pilgrim. There is no need to worry about previous sailing experience or coming on your own as the majority of the guest crew are solo travellers. Sailing from the beautiful Brixham in Torbay, Devon, the Skipper will pick a route to make the most of the conditions, and your overnight could be up the River Dart, Babbacombe, Teignmouth or Dawlish.
Pilgrims’ home port of Brixham is a picture postcard fishing port, with pretty colour-washed fishermen’s cottages rising up around the old harbour. On your departure and return you will also see other heritage and classic sailing boats, as well as fishing trawlers in and around the busy harbour.
On board you can either sit back, relax, or help the crew hoist the sails and even take the helm – it’s up to you!
Whatever you decide, you will enjoy the magnificent scenery, fresh air and exhilarating sailing. Our Skipper and Crew will be on hand to ensure that your time onboard is as enjoyable as it can be.
Once aboard Pilgrim, you will set sail for the afternoon where you can help handle the sails, steer the ship and help to navigate, or you can simply sit back and enjoy the scenery. You can work up an appetite, looking forward to a tasty two course supper once the anchor’s down. You can then relax, before you settle down for a comfortable night’s sleep.
Before retiring for the night on Pilgrim and if in Dartmouth, you may want to step ashore to explore, or just stay onboard and drink in the view. The following morning, enjoy the sights and sounds of the River Dart or the Babbacombe/Teign coastline, then a delicious breakfast on board, before Pilgrim sets sail homeward to Brixham.
Your overnight accommodation is on Pilgrim in very comfortable bunks. Please note there are no cabins on Pilgrim bunks are in shared spaces.
Experience the early sights and sounds of the River Dart, then a delicious breakfast on board. You may have time to sail a short way further up river to see the famous Britannia Royal Naval College where officer training has taken place since 1863. Then we set sail back to Brixham.
As we return home there is time to capture any photo opportunities you may have missed on the outward journey, including the half mile long breakwater and lighthouse built in 1916 to protect Brixham Harbour and the town from tidal surges following the great storm in 1866.
This is the part of your sailing trip that unfortunately we unable to control! As a result we cannot guarantee that all destinations/experiences referred to in this description will be in your itinerary exactly as stated, however we will always do our up most to deliver a great experience.
Whether you are an experienced sailor or a complete beginner, the professional crew will train you to be guest crew from the moment you arrive, with the intention that everybody works together to sail the ship. The common thread to all Classic Sailing holidays is ‘Hands on’ participation on ships that use ropes, blocks and tackles and ‘people power’ to set sail.
We cater for a wide range of ages and physical abilities, and how much you are expected to do varies a bit between vessels. See the vessel tab above which explains all about the ‘sailing style’ and what to expect in terms of hands on participation. There is a lot of information about day to day life, the ships facilities and accommodation on the vessel pages.
Every customer sailing with us will need to fill in basic medical questions on their booking application. If you are not sure if your current level of fitness and agility are up to a voyage, then please ring the Classic Sailing Office and we can chat through your concerns and possibly find options that might suit you better.

Lovely boat and great crew. No question was too daft. A highly enjoyable education.SG
This was my first voyage on a tall ship and I had no previous experience of sailing. The crew were wonderful – friendly, calm and patiently explained and gave me confidence to help with sailing the boat. They also helped to build a warm, friendly and fun atmosphere among all of us onboard. I cannot wait until I have the opportunity to sail on Pilgrim again.Annette
Sailing on Pilgrim was amazing. I loved every moment, she is totally beautiful. Swimming ashore and snorkelling. Building a fire on the beach. I love the freedom and peace being on the water, it's so natural and relaxing. I had such a great time with a great bunch of people.Di

Wow, what can I say about my first trip on the beautiful Pilgrim with Classic Sailing? It was amazing! I am still smiling about the utterly brilliant weekend. I booked this trip as a bit of an escape from the day to day normal life on the land and it was well worth it. I returned home more relaxed, a little sunburnt, but wanting to just jump straight back on board! I t was great fun being allowed to be involved in raising the sails and learning a bit of history about the vessel. If you hare thinking about booking a voyage, be it a day trip, weekend or longer... do it! I could not recommend it more highly and as a single traveller I also felt at ease and safe while on the whole voyage.Kate
Brilliant, fantastic, I could not have wished for better. The crew couldn't do enough for us and made the day even more special. If you want to do something a bit different for a big birthday and something that your guests will talk about for a long time then I would highly recommend Pilgrim.Sophie
Pilgrim is a fantastic heritage project that deserves everyones support. I have sailed on her twice now and on both occasions the party has had a most wonderful sailing experience. Get out there and appreciate her!Terry
The trip was one of the best experiences of my life and something I will never forget. Food was wonderful... beds were comfy... crew were faultless and very knowledgeable about the boat and its history. You can tell they have a true passion for their jobs. I would certainly return again and will be recommending to all I know!Tashargh
Restored Brixham Sailing Trawler Pilgrim in action and images. Photos from Classic Sailing customers, ships crew and professional photographers. We hope it gives a flavour of her sailing, life on board, the people that come, her beautiful sailing grounds and what it is like to live below decks.
