The Roman name for the tribes in Eastern England just north of the Thames was the Trinovantians, hence the ships name of Trinovante. This voyage in her home waters is far more interesting than you would expect. Su and John have extensive knowledge and experience of their home waters. They can tell you about the maritime history. As you travel up the Thames you are exploring over 2000 years of seafaring history. see how commerce had moved further and further away from the heart of the city until you arrive at the Tower of London. You will not be disappointed.

The most likely route from there on this leg is to sail down the Wallet and past the Gunfleet wind farm to either the River Colne or Blackwater.
From there we may head across the shipping lane and past the Red Sands towers fortifications to the Swale where there is a big seal colony and the anchorage feels wild and remote.
Sailing off anchor the following morning, Trinovante will probably head to one of our favourite anchorages. Lying off Southend Pier with the bright lights of the seafront and the longst pier in the world as a backdrop could be a fitting end to the day.
The Thames Estuary is a fascinating area to take a break for a weekend sailing in the UK. Here you can enjoy a world of contrasts.
In quiet river anchorages, the tide ebbs and flows, as it has done for thousands of years.
We often have the place almost to ourselves. It’s a perfect location to hear oystercatchers and other wading birds calling as they feed on the mudflats.
A short day sail up the coast is the hustle and bustle of commercial activity on the River Orwell at Felixstowe. Here is one of the busiest container ports in the UK where big tugs manoeuver ships arriving from all over the world.
Steeped in sailing history and tradition, the Thames Estuary is one of the last places in the UK where traditional boats are still a common sight. You are almost certain to see a Thames sailing barges and one of the fishing smacks
This is also Trinovante’s ‘home’ and where our schooner was built so we know it well.
On the last day, Trinovante will head up the Thames to London taking in all the iconic sights as we go.
We have timed this leg so we’ll have the tide under us and will arrive just before high water for our final berth at Tower Bridge where Trinovante will be berthed right in the heart of London
London and the Thames
Joining is often near the Waterfront Leisure Centre. Your ship will give you clear instructions.
For Joining Morgenster, use the ship’s tracker to help you meet the ship on the day: Where is Morgenster Now?
For Joining Oosterschelde, use the ship’s tracker to help you meet the ship on the day: Where is Oosterschelde Now?
For Joining Lord Nelson or Tenacious, Canary Wharf is the likely joining location. The ship’s office will contact you directly with exact joining notes once they are known.
For Trinovante
She often berths on the Downriver side of the Tower Bridge.
Please limit yourself to one soft bag or rucksack as there is limited storage space on board. No suitcases please!
Tallulah does not have waterproof jacket and trousers yet, so please bring a properly waterproof jacket and trousers on all voyages.
Walking and cycling waterproofs are usually adequate and much lighter to pack, so there really is no need to buy a coastal sailing jacket (unless you really want an excuse to invest in your future sailing). If you need any advice, or lack of a jacket is preventing you participating, please ring us on 01326 53 1234
Alcohol
Tallulah does not always have wine bottles for sale on board so you are welcome to bring modest quantities of alcohol, (unless it is an alcohol free voyage) e.g. to drink with evening meals, but drinking whilst sailing is not allowed.
I have spent most of my sailing time in modern yachts of various sizes but having the helm of a 3 masted schooner under full sail is an experience like no other.
Keith
Thanks for a truly memorable weekend! The sailing experience and tuition were first class: I enjoyed the companionship very much: all that under the leadership of two people talented and thoroughly pleasant in equal measure. It was a privilege. Thank you again. And the megastar was Trinovante – what a ship!
Mike
“Food, laughter and space were all in generous supply,
as were the opportunities to learn as much or as little as you chose.
Thanks Su and John the tapestry of life is richer for having sailed with you.”
Adam
We have loved it all from being at the helm, hoisting sail, fixing fenders and weighing the anchor.
Julie
Just a note of thanks for the fabulous time I had aboard Trinovante across the North Sea. I think it mended something in me I hadn’t realised was broken. Of course the reason it’s so good is the way you make us incompetent crew able to share a part of your life.
John
The scenery was stunning. We moored or anchored in a series of small harbours and bays keeping our eyes open for wildlife. Sharing a beer on deck as the sun slowly sank over the silent scene will be an enduring memory.
Stuart And Sara
What a great time I had with you and my fellow crew members last weekend.
I really enjoyed being part of a small and friendly group and being hands-on with the sailing manoeuvres.
Charlie
Thanks for a fantastic week..
Chris and Alastair
It is the skill of a successful host to take a gang of disparate (desperate?) folk and turn them into a group of friends – Well done!
We are thoroughly bitten by the bug and would like to have another go next year
